Date of Last Activity - Deferment

Hi, I'm new to this forum and learning a lot! I have 5 student loans and 2 are in collections. 1 is from when I was in college from 2002-2006. I made payments in 2006-2007, then it was in deferment from 2007-2009 when I was in grad school. What is the date of last activity- the last time I made a payment, or when the deferment expired? I'm trying to settle with this company, and I feel like I have more wiggle room to lower the cost if the loan is out of the statue of limitations or nearly out.

Re: Date of Last Activity - Deferment

Are these federal loans?  If so, the SoL doesn't apply, so you'll want to be sure you're dealing with private loans.

If they are private, you need to check your state's SoL laws.  My understanding is that some states have different standards for what constitutes "activity" on a loan.  If you can, see if you can find a resource specific to student loans and your state for the best information.

This is a loan I got through my state's department of education. It was then sold to ECSI who administered the grant. I made payments to ECSI in 2006-2007. They then put it into a collection agency in my state. Its not federal. Would this be considered to be private? I have a private Sallie Mae loan I'm paying on.
