Hi all,
Forgive me if this is a common issue, but I searched and found nothing.
I have paid down the one student loan I have to a balance of $150 (plus cents of accruing interest.) The loan is a DOE loan serviced by Sallie Mae and was disbused 1/2012. I had an extra 15,000 thankyou points and was able to get a $100 and a $50 check from citi made payable to the Department of Education. I put my loan account number on the memo line of the check and mailed them on 4/16/2012 to the address listed by Sallie Mae for payment of my loan.
The payment address they have listed is
Department of Education
P.O. Box 740351
Atlanta, GA 30374-0351
I asked one of the reps for the loan over the phone about mailing a 3rd party check (from Citi) and she said it would be no problem as long as I made it out to Department of Education and mailed it to that address. Since it has been nearly 3 weeks since it was mailed, I am becoming a little worried. Nothing has shown up in pending payments online.
Anyone have anything similar with mailed in checks not posting quickly? Any advice?
Thanks for your help.

I would call & ask.

Reward checks are notoriously late in being processed... usually after the date they even state they sent it. On top of this, since it is a third party check, I would imagine it would take a little longer to process to ensure it is credited to the right account since they cannot just match up the name on the check as well.
I would definitely call citi first, then your loan processor.
