Sallie Mae and Navient???

So a friend had Sallie Mae student loan rehab program for 9 months. She completed it. They took it off her past due payment. They said it will be in a freeze for 2 years. Now she logged into Sallie Mae and under Navient which is their branch, it says she has missed 4 late payments. What the hell is that? It is supposed to be frozen for 2 years and now it shows up as late payments.

Re: Sallie Mae and Navient???

She needs to contact Navient and ask about the status of the loan.  Ordinarily, a student loan will not be "frozen" for two years after completing rehab.  Even if she did apply for a forbearance or deferment, it would have to be approved, and most of them have to be re-evaluated at least once a year (with the exception of an in-school deferement).  The best course is to get together any documentation like letters or e-mails that explain the status of the loan, and then call and ask for an explanation.

Re: Sallie Mae and Navient???

Just an update, apparently this is what Navient did. They pulled info at least 1 year before splitting with Sallie Mae. Had old info, but yet Sallie Mae sent a letter saying they split so we thought info was updated. Online it shows up as no email, no mail and no call notifications. You need every semester to be a full time student to have a frozen account. They put up a 90-119 days of no payment to the bureaus and no matter how much we talked with them, they didn't want to remove it on the phone. Said to sent a letter to their department. As far as I understood since they automatically put only notifications on their website they could remove it with a letter sent to them and after this, you can ask for a removal of dings on your credit score from Sallie Mae as well, saying that you have rehabbed and asking for forgiveness
