Student Loans Payments/score

Hello! I'm new to the forum as a subject starter but an old follower for advice. My student loans are in good standing but have been on a deferred. I'm making my first payment this week. Question - Now that I'm beginning to make payments will this have a positive affect on my score?

Re: Student Loans Payments/score

The reason I'm asking this question is because I'm trying to raise my score. FICO currently is stating a negative factor is my debt. I have very little credit card debt and only the student loans. I would like to purchase a home soon. Therefore, I was wondering if my score would increase after several months of payments.

Re: Student Loans Payments/score

installment loans are a small portion of your overall credit score.  while certainly a positive payment history will help your scores, it is not going to help them as much as you might be thinking.  it's more of a long-term help.
