Transferred Student Loans - Can these be removed?

Hello,

I have a few student loans on my account which were transferred to another lender, am I able to dispute these to get them removed since they are no longer with Direct Service Loans or Citi bank? Thanks in advance!

Tradelines below from my Transunion CR.

It looks like they are reporting correctly as Closed and with a $0 balance.  Is any of the other information incorrect?  You should only dispute incorrect information.

Thanks for your response. The other information is correct, but I recall seeing something here on the forums that certain items could be disputed if it the OC is no longer in service or if the loans were transferred. I probably just interpreted it incorrectly.

Thanks for responding to the OP question. I was curious about the same thing. I'm disappointed nothing can be done. It makes my credit reports look messy. Onward and upward!!!

Without certainty, I would sayy no.  I would say this informaiton will remain on your credt report for 10 years if the TL is positive or 7 years if negative.  I would assume this is like a mortgage that was sold or transferred to a new lender.

Noably, I am in the same boat as many of you.  My student loans were transferred about 3 or 4 times.  So for each lender, there are approx 5 - 10 tradelines.  When I factor in my mortgages - that is even more TLs.

The 3 that are showing "claim filed with Government", I'm guessing they went into default.  When this happens,  the lender (Direct Lending?) files a claim with the guarantor (Dept of Ed) and once they're paid, they change their entry to zero balance.  Because the loans are taken out of their hands and are now with the guarantor, it will show either 'transfered' or "claim filed with Government" or even 'collection'.   In other words, this transfer was not like assigning a debt to a collection company, it was permanent.

The dates they're showing as scheduled to come off (2017) is when they will because your DOFD is the first missed payment before ending up defaulted.

(oh and you can dispute all you want, the Government isn't going to budge very likely, even on a paid collection)
