My rich uncle filed a chapter 7 and went bankrupt. My student loan (one of them) is with them and is supposed to come due when I graduate (June) but I am still continuing on to grad school. Normally I'd call to inform them to keep it in deferement. I have not received a letter or anything about payment but I just noticed online that they went bankrupt. What does this mean for my student loan, payment, etc? Does someone else buy it or what? Will they have different terms than I signed to in the first place?
You had the loan thru your Uncle's company...which went bankrupt?? Is that what you're saying??

My Rich Uncle was a student loan originator of both private and federal loans.
OP...what type of loans did you have?

does anyone know how to reach MRU Holdings? They show a negative on my credit report that I didn't even know I had. I can't find any working phone# for MRU or myrichuncle.

Did you try disputing it? If you can't get ahold of them, and they are no longer in existence, what are the chances that they will be able to verify the negative item?

I have 2 loans through them and over the past 2 years they have sold the debt to two different companies. Education Empowerment owns it now....My friend/classmate got a loan too the same time I did and they have never contacted her (we graduated 2.5 yrs ago) and I've been paying since then and my balcance isn't decreasing if anything it has increased 10.25% interest rate. I wish they would lose my information like they did her---it's not on her credit report either...she's purchased a house and a car since then.
