Hi
I have a student loan that was opened August 2008 and the claim was filed by the government on June 2004. It is scheduled to continue on record until May 2010 and was verified and updated on December 2007. I think I have asked this question before but I am so busy I forget. Should this be off of my credit report already?
Thanks

A couple of questions that I think will help us answer strong, you say the loan was opened on August 2008, is that correct or a typo? (It doesn't seem to make sense with what follows, sorry if I'm mis-reading.)
Is this a federal or a private student loan?

SCF....
My bad... it was opened on August 1996.. and it is a federal loan .. the claim was filed with the government and says on my experian report that it is scheduled to continue on record until May 2010
Thanks

Strong, my understanding is that delinquent federal loans will never disappear off your report until you rehab them or pay them off. If this loan was in good standing, it should hang around for 10 years after it was paid off.
Hopefully Lynn will pop by, she knows all the nitty gritty details with federal loans.
By my calculations it shouldnt drop off until sometime in 2011...drop off is based on the default date in 2004. Student loans can report 7 years post claim paid or default date.
