I just pulled my credit report and found out that 2 years ago fed loan serving reported one student loan 30 days late for 2 consecutive months. This as a surprise because I contacted them in the midst of consolidating loans to keep them apprised of the situation. I know for a fact that I called them to tell them of the situation; will the person I spoke to have documented the conversations? I just wrote a letter explaining what happened back then. How likely is it that they will they agree to remove the late payments from my credit reports? Is it difficult to get them to agree?
Any insight?
When you contacted them did they state that you did not need to make payments while your consolidation went through? It isn't enough to just tell your servicer that you are consolidating your loan - you need to either continue to make payments to the old servicer until you receive notice that the loan has been paid through the new consolidation loan, or you need to request an adminstrative forbearance until the consolidation is complete. Did you receive a forbearance? Usually they would send a confirmation letter or e-mail, if you still have it, that should certainly help you get the lates removed.
If you didn't request forbearance, then you needed to be making payments, and it sounds like you did not. You can always send a goodwill letter explaining the misunderstanding, but the servicer isn't required to remove the lates.
I honestly do not remember. I thought I had a forbearance. I know I dont have any emails from them. Is fed loan servicing usually pretty good about agreeing to these type of request?
Its just odd also because I had numerous loans and yet none of the other were late or had payments due. Im wondering why this one would have. I need to figure out why just one loan would have been due & considered late while the rest were not.
