Improving the Fitness Challenge

Hi members!

It has come to my attention that this part of the forums is often overlooked. I think that having more members take part in the challenge would be beneficial for everyone.

For those that take part, I would like to hear your thoughts on how we can improve the challenge (e.g. renaming it? marketing it better? having challenges every month? having it admin ran?). I am open to all ideas, but can't promise all of them will be done. Smiley Wink

Awesome! I look forward to hearing/implementing changes/ideas! Come on guys, this is the time to let it all hang out. Smiley Very Happy And I promise, I'm so a-ok with admin taking over if they'd like! Smiley Wink That would be nice for me, but it's all good if that doesn't happen either. I go with the flow. lol

Re: Improving the Fitness Challenge

Hey Everyone:

I haven't been around long enough to feel like I have any suggestions that would be useful, but here are my thoughts.

I recently joined the Gardening group.  One of the things I like about that group is that there are what I call "encouragement rewards" (different spades/images) one can add to their siggy once reaching a specific length of time for being in the garden. This makes what could be mudane (that is ... waiting for your accounts to age which is just about as exciting as watching paint dry) a bit more fun.  It helps me to see movement/progress in my goal.

Taking the fitness challenge is one thing, reaching a goal is another.  It would be great when a goal is reached that something similiar was available. I suspect most people see gardening and the fitness challenge as an overlapping forum.  Though this is partially true since I may be in the garden to allow my accounts to age while at the same time, trying to allow time enough to save up eough money for a down payment for example, or pay down my CC balance, etc.  But in truth, the garden is mostly about not getting HP and giving your account time to age - which also by default - increase your fico score.

Where the Fitness challenge could enhance or add additional benefit is offer similar visual siggy rewards for reaching a challenge goal.  Since a fico challenge differs for each person, maybe there could be rewards for each categories (score rewards, savings rewards, cc balance reduction rewards, baddies removed etc.).  In my mind, or example, I have a savings goals of 5% for a down payment for a house in about a year, a 700 Fico 8 score across the board and a tax lien removal goal, etc..  What if I could add little icon/images either at the top or at the bottom of my siggy indicating a goal was reached?  For example, how about little dollar sign icon with 10% across the middle (indicating 10% of my savings goal was been reached) and next to that savings icon, a shiney golden 700 club icon, showing that I joined the 700 club (1-2 scores in the 700's) and then I get a different 700 club icon when I get all 700's across, and next to that maybe a baddie icon (being crushed by a hammer with a +1, +2, +3 or however many baddies you got rid of),... and since tax liens are so darn hard to get removed - how about special icon when a tax lien gets removed.  And maybe if someone reaches all of the goals that they set for the year, a special Fico Fitness rewards icon.  Fun. Cute. Right?  This would also pique interest from newcomers and current members as to what those little icons means and how to get them on their siggy...or maybe that's me - a bit competitive.  Haha!

Ofcourse all of these "little" rewards are contrived and only serve a visual purpose to welcome newcomers to participate and keep those who did join to interact more often with the board.  I can tell you that as a newcomer, I did feel I had a lonnnnnng way to go before I thought I would have anything *useful* to join the fico challenge with.    When in truth the fico challenge is about overall fico score/financial health - which even the newest members can celebrate.  Crossing over from the 400's to the 500's to the 600's to the 700's to the 800's are all very big deals as well as other goals and should be celebrated along the way.

Re: Improving the Fitness Challenge

I recommend finding a way to put it under one of the sub forums.

It's in in the same section as more non participatory subjects, and I frankly had a hard time finding it to join yesterday.  Someone mentioned it in the Garden Club.  I didn't realize it still existed, it was the reason I joined this forum many, many years ago.

KidCat, so true...I think I just happened upon it.  Hopefully, with the hyperlink added to the new logo, people will find it easier by just clicking it. That should also help overall visibility as well.   There are many subforums it could apply to as it touches many areas.

Re: Improving the Fitness Challenge

I totally agree about putting this in one of the other subforums. I only found it after seeing the icon in someone's signature and then searching for it. I had seen the title in the list of subforums, but really didn't know what it was and didn't feel compelled to click on it. It could go in the "General Credit Topics" subforum, since taking the challenge can involve many different aspects of credit. I know it also can involve other things like savings, investments, and such, but it is called the "FICO" Fitness Challenge. Smiley Happy

I also really like LOTR's suggestion of milestone icons. I am very visual, and I like seeing my credit card pics and other icons in my signature. I know some people don't really care about that, though. But having icons to signify different accomplishments is cool. The one problem with that is ending up with too many, and not having enough room in our signature sections.

Building on that idea, though, I could see having different icons for FICO Fitness Challenge Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, et cetera for those that take part and post updates every month, remaining part of the challenge over multiple years.

The one thing I will say, though, is that I hope the FICO Fitness Challenge continues. It differs from the Garden Club in that it can involve opening new credit as part of an individual's personal challenge goals, as opposed to merely committing to not opening any new credit. I think it definitely has a place in the forums. Smiley Happy

Bella007, yeah, for sure, the siggy could get crowed. Smiley Wink

I really like that idea as it encourages continual growth and improvement in whatever financial area the goals may be in.  I do think some people forego the challenge though and just hop in the garden to discuss ongoing goals when, as you pointed out, the two forums indeed serve different purposes.

Wow thank you so much for this, @LOTR. This is awesome - not something I would've thought of on my own. I love the different icon ideas and will see what I can do. Maybe scale it down to monthly or yearly anniversaries like Bella07 mentioned.
