My Name is Mark! I am recovering from a job loss in 2009 in the Auto Industry (Manufacturing) Had to move, lost 2 homes, truck repossessed and pretty much forced into bankruptcy and 2 foreclosures! I am trying to recover my life and my credit from the huge loss my family suffered. I have since filed bankruptcy discharged March 2010 and foreclosures final April 2010 and October 2010. I have been with same landlord for almost 3 years, we have gotten a car through buy here pay here that only reported to transunion, but finally we secured financing for our current auto loan through capitol one. We have not gotten any credit cards or any other debt since the bankruptcy, only the car loans. My goal is to rebuild my credit and get back up to a 800 score, It will take time but I am trying! I want to buy a home again and feel at ease! I have a great job with a awesome company in the Aviation industry and I am blessed! So I wanted to join this challenge to get back on track! I am excited to get started!

I have been working on my credit for a while. Finally found this forum and found some great advise.
My credit score in December and Jan was around 620. I have paid off most of my collection accounts and out of 15, I only have 4 left. I am working on those. My current score from Eq is 686, Tu is a 704. It is hard to get it any higher. I would like to have a 720+ to get a decent autoloan.
My credit was ruined because I never really cared too much. I had medical collections on my record. When I was younger I had a few department store collections, but those have since been removed.
I have a handful of credit cards. One with a CL for $500, one with a CL for $2000, one with a $780 CL and one for $500. I have a handfull of department store credit cards JCP for $2000, Victoria Secrets $700 and best buy for $300. I try to keep my department store cards low or zero. The VISA, MC and Discover card I try not to use but seem to use them often. Their balance is still around 30-40% of my CL. I pay it down of off, but then end up using it again.
My vehicle is 8 payments away from being paid off, but the Credit Union I use doesnt report to a credit burreau unless there is a late pay (NEVER had that). I have 4 paid off vehicles under my name, but I keep getting a very high interest rate (10-14%). Any suggestions to up my score and lower my rates?
Looking to improve my credit situation this year. Would like to finally try and purchase my first home and in order to do so, my credit has got to get into shape. Already have one secured card and one unsecured card that I'm paying on time religiously. Recently paid off my car and using that money to help pay down student loans. Hoping that you guys will give me the support and advice to help me get the house of my dreams,
@Anonymous wrote:I was surfing the web researching credit scores needed to buy a home and stumbled on your wonderful website. I am very encouraged to read the forums and find so many willing to help. My goal is to buy a house by the end of 2012. I have already put a 4 month budget together that will see all of my debt cleared by August which include:
1. 4 traffic fines/collections, Reported to EXP and TU
2. An old PGE collection due to be removed this month, Reported to EXP and TU, 7 years old in April. Unpaid
3. City of Brentwood collection to remain until July 2012 (7 years old in July)
4. Judgement reported to only EXP due to be removed in August, (7 years old in Aug)
5. One 30 day late dated July 2010 on a loan (which is paid off) The late was an oversight.
6. Chase card 3 30day lates dating may 2011, Jan and Aug 2010.
I have 5 credit cards as follows:
Merrick bank Credit limit 1950. Bal: 1000.00
Khols: limit 300.00 Bal: 0.00
Cap 1: Limit 500.00 Bal:0.00
HSBC: Limit 320.00 Bal: 74.00
1st Premiere: 600.00 Bal: 340.00
I have put together a budget to pay all credit cards off by August 2012.
I have one car loan in good standing no lates with a Bal: of 7800.00 monthly payment 417.00
I had some very hard times in 2010 thru 2011 which have since stabled. I am now on a committed path to realizing My Dream of owning a home. My goal is to reach at least 700 but I would like to get to 750 if possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
My scores are as follows:
EXP: 574
TU: 574
EQU: 691
Providing an update.
I started this challenge back in April and since then I have made some major progress. Before I post my score changes I would like to extend a big thank you to this site and all of the Moderators. I have learned so much and have had great success through GW letter and Disputes (not to mention statute of limitations). Ok so now on to my results.
Starting scores:
TU 663 EXP 574 EQU 691
Current:
TU 767 EXP 703 EQU 771
I have 2 negative to remove from my Experian report but I will just wait for the statute of limitations to run out on them in 2 months......
My debt to income is at 7%
Zero Balances on all but one credit card and it is at 1/3 the limit and declining
Again special Thanks to this Site, Moderators and Community! Without all of the posts and Community willingness to help I may not be where I am now!
Good luck to all you Challengers - Just know this: It really works if you read post questions and act on the advice!
The Dream of a home is now a reality WooHooooooooooooo!

Wow...you've been through some tough times. You sound very enthusiastic to get back on track. I wish you the best!
Mstrong! How did you do it?
My bankruptcy was discharged in June of 2011. My scores are still in the 600's. I know its going to take some time, but what do I do next to increase my scores. I haven't bought any automobiles or big purchases. Should I do that? What about the old negative accounts that were on the BRTCY. Do I pay them off.? Not sure what to do next, except pay my bills on time. Please give me some advice Thanking you in advance.
