Re: Take the myFICO Fitness Challenge for 2013!

Well, thank God it's only June and I've already obtained my first FICO fitness goal!  My husband and I closed on our first home on May 31, 2013.  I'm so thankful for the myFICO discussion boards!  Everyone's posts and advice helped us through the entire process...  and it only took 2 months!!!  We're so happy to be first time homeowners.  I'm going to continue to follow myFICO to continue improving my credit.  THANKS EVERYONE!

Starting Score: 561
Current Score: 623
Goal Score: 660 for now

Re: Take the myFICO Fitness Challenge for 2013!

I'm a newbie here. I had student loans that were 120 days late and one charge off from a time when I had no money! The charge off falls off my report the end of this month. I got a secured Capital one over a year ago and my score has come from in the upper 500s to the mid 600s by just using the card and paying on time. I do currently have a high balance on the card but I'm going to pay it off in two weeks, I know it's a no-no now. I also just applied for and got my first unsecured card - capital one cash rewards $1,000 limit. I know it's not much but it was a big deal to me. I also got a $600 walmart card and $400 chevron card. I'm done applying for a while. My goal is to get a new truck in early 2014 so I'm trying to prep for that.

Re: Take the myFICO Fitness Challenge for 2013!

I'm new to the myFICO forum but i'm really happy to be here!  I messed up my credit when I was young then I brought a house with not so great credit at a high interest rate.  Needless to say I got behind on my payments and paid my way out of that mess I was going towards foreclosure but was able to pay enough money to get out of foreclosure and keep my house.  I've since modified my loan and got a better interest rate but it's still high so I'm working to clean my credit up and get a better interest rate next year.  I've paid off a lien but I still owe $13,000 to the IRS but that's down from $30,000 three years ago.  Other than the lien I have one collection on my credit that I will be paying off next week.  I just recently got a secured credit card with at $500 limit to help me with my credit since I had no revolving credit it was impacting my socre.  My main goal is to increase my savings account balances and raise my credit score.

Re: Take the myFICO Fitness Challenge for 2013!

I've been hanging out here for a while and just started recently contributing...

My goal for this year has been to pay off all of my debt while doing other things to improve my FICO score at the same time.

I started the year with over 60k in debt. 20k on an LOC and the rest on credit cards. I am down to 9k on the cards (2 left) and still have the 20k loan. I'm positive that I can finish paying the cards before the end of the year, but not so sure I can completely kill the LOC. I'm not sure what my FICO was at the start of the year, but I think it was 680s. It is now 719 and only 31 away from my 750 goal.

I'm buying a new construction house that will be done is SEPT. Right now I'm trying to get my scores (and DTI) to look their best before we close and have to get final approval. I don't want to have financing fall through and have to rush to get a new lender...

So at the end of the year I would like to have no CC debt (hopefully a much lower LOC) and a new home with a score in the 750 range. Then next year I'll concentrate on getting new credit (and no LOC) and the year after I'll try to shoot for > 750.

Re: Take the myFICO Fitness Challenge for 2013!

I had some job and family issues a few years ago. Filed Chapter 7 in 2009. Lost my house and my car. In the last 18 months or so, I've really been trying to improve my financial life. I started with a Cap 1 card and a few store cards. Cap 1 offered me an auto loan, so I have a new car. A couple of months ago, I set a goal to purchase a house. Until I really started looking into my credit situation, I had no idea how much of an effect maxing out my cards had on my score. I have completely buckled down and managed to get my overall usage down from about 80% to 30% in just six weeks. I still have a way to go, but I am very happy with my progress so far. I am anxious to see what my score looks like after they all report.
