850 isn't impossible, but opening a new account or taking out a new loan will obviously change that. If you pay your bills on time, don't have too many accounts reporting balances, don't allow big balances to report, and don't open new accounts, that 850 is well within reach over time. The trick for me is trying to get them ALL to 850. That's going to take some work.

Yup...his are all 850 lol.

Re: 850 credit score?

Yes, solid advice if you want to get an 850 score:

1) Stop apping any new credit. Ever. [this means no sign up bonus for you]

2) Pay down balances to near but not quite zero [this means no borrowing for you]

3) Never miss a payment

4) Never miss a payment

5) Continue to do this for 8 to 10 years

"I just live the way I want to, but within my means"

If so, then you aren't living your life the way you want to: you are living life within your means, and adapting your Wants to fit within your available Means. Two quite different sentences. And that is really the key to 850: Stop Borrowing.

High Bal Jan 2009 $116k on $146k limits 80% Util.
Oct 2014 $46k on $127k 36% util EQ 722 TU 727 EX 727

The other thing I would suggest once 1 thru 5 are in play is: Manage your credit and stop looking at scores daily or weekly. It's really non value add - IMO

Score fluctuations associated with normal activity are noise that can be a distraction which leads one astray. It's the trend over time that matters and monthly results work well for tracking progress.

I don't subscribe to monitoring services. First time I actually saw my Fico score was in 2014 on a Discover card statement. Now I get monthly results from Discover, AMEX and Citi which is sufficient for confirming stability.

Fico 9: .......EQ 850 TU 850 EX 850
Fico 8: .......EQ 850 TU 850 EX 850
Fico 4 .....:. EQ 809 TU 823 EX 830 EX Fico 98: 842
Fico 8 BC:. EQ 892 TU 900 EX 900
Fico 8 AU:. EQ 887 TU 897 EX 899
Fico 4 BC:. EQ 826 TU 858, EX Fico 98 BC: 870
Fico 4 AU:. EQ 831 TU 872, EX Fico 98 AU: 861
VS 3.0:...... EQ 835 TU 835 EX 835
