Apartment reporting to Ex

Apologies if this has been covered, I couldnt find any recent threads.

I am doing work in another state. For me, it made sense to take a lease over extended stay.

I knew I would take an inquiry for the app but the apt is reporting and updating to Ex each month.

Is this normal? It does impact my AAoA but a 6 month lease with perfect payments will show for years.

Re: Apartment reporting to Ex

First time I've ever heard of an apartment reporting payment history. Seems strange.

Yes, Experian has been offering this product. I think it is new within the last year or so, but I am not sure of the date they started reporting.  From what I have read, It is supposed to help the unbanked and others get credit scores by reporting the rent payments so they can eventually qualify for credit and/or a mortgage.

It's strange, but it makes sense.  They can report your failure to pay cleaning or whatever you were unaware of, as a collection.  It's good that your positive payments should also have an impact.  It'll take a while, but as long as you're never over 30 days late it'll help quite a few renters.
