Even if you add an AU that provides a score boost, the resulting score is "artificial" in the sense that it is based on credit history that is not yours.  Potential creditors are aware of this fact, and if they wish to consider a "real" score that is based only on the consumer's own personal credit history, as is the normal case, they cannot back out the effect of an AU and obtain such a score.

 

If a potential creditor does a manual review, which is common when applying for higher amounts of credit, and sees the presence of an AU, they might request its removal or they may discount or disregard the value of your posted score.

 

AU scores are useful when rebuilding, where the amount of credit being sought is usually low, and thus the potential creditor does not do a manual review, and is not aware of that the score is based in part on the credit history of another.  It is thus a good way to build or rebuild a score.  However, as the consumer seeks higher amounts of credit, presence of an AU may become a liability.
