Consolidating Dual Department Store Accounts

I have two cards from the same Department store. They were originally two different stores but then one bought the other. The two cards also have two different due dates which is kind of a pain. I am considering transferring the balance from the new card to the card that I already had before the buy out which has a considerably longer history. If my available credit remains the same and I only close the new one, this should not have too much of an adverse effect on my score, should it?  I've already experienced a 14 point drop due to one inquiry last month.
