Credit History

At what point does an unopened account no longer affect your score?

I have several accounts that were closed in 2001 and earlier. They were never late, but Im in the process of building my cr and scores up again and all three reports vary and would like to make them easier to read.

Would having them removed hurt? My history is 13yrs and have several accounts that are 5+ yrs old and a few that are 1-5.

Re: Credit History

Removing these old, closed accounts will drop your score. Your history and AAoA play a huge part in your score. Old closed accounts do not hurt you at all.

Re: Credit History

You clearly dont want to remove them, but the CRA might.  CRAs dont keep dead account records forever.  It seems to be that their policy it to keep them for up to ten years after closing, at which point they may choose to delete.  It is their call.
