Drop in score

In checking my credit report, there was a new collection of 173, from a phone bill I apparently didnt pay (and don't remember) from 6 years ago.  It dropped my score 70 points.  If I pay it in full, does anybody know how much it might raise it?  And the company will not remove it from the report, only report that it was paid in full-they absolutely refuse to remove it.  I just want it off because I am applying for a loan.  thanks

Re: Drop in score

Your in a good position to negotiate with the lender being that the collection is almost ready to disappear off your report in 7 years. You should almost most definitely be able to do a PFD. (Pay for delete). Read up on PFD.
