Finally...success with removing dup INQ

OK.

Switched electric companies recently.  They made two INQ on EQ, two days apart.  Immediately called up the electric company and asked why they pulled my credit twice.  They said, sorry our mistake.  We can't fix it.  Contact EQ.

I live in CSC land (Texas), and I wrote to CSC, but they take the position that INQs are a matter of record and that if there is an error, then the company who made the error must correct it.

Got on the phone again last month with the electric company. A credit specialist apologized for the duplicate INQ, but said that they can't fix it, sorry.  Went another round with EQ.

Tonight, just got off the phone with the electric company.  He was on the phone with me and the EQ rep.  EQ will have the INQ gone by close of business today.

I will check my reports in the morning.

Sorry for the long ramble.

Yay for persistence!

I hope it goes away and stays away, but if not Smiley Sad , try asking if they will re-code the separate inq as a soft. They can absolutely do that, although you might have to escalate to the sole harassed employee that sends all this stuff in. Good luck!

Re: Finally...success with removing dup INQ

Hmm... that is interesting to know that you can at least ask the company that made the inquiry to correct it (even if they may not do it!) - I've tried to get Equifax to remove a duplicate inquiry from my account, and they appear to have done nothing but ignore my request. I applied for a credit card with US Bank (who I have my checking account with) last year, and for some reason Equifax shows two enquiries from them on the same day - one says 'US Bank' and the other 'USBANK', but it's definitely two different inquiries. Maybe I should try the bank itself, see if they might be willing to help...

Good luck with getting yours removed - I hope you can get it done!

Maybe you were too quick to pull your report. Recently, I successfully had a couple inquiries deleted off my EX report, but I waited for EX to send a confirmation letter and an updated copy of my credit report.

But maybe you're going to have to be a little more persistent. I had a heckuva time trying to get an account deleted from my credit file with EQ.

Back in late 2002, I discovered an incorrect charge-off Verizon Wireless account on my EQ credit report. I sent in a dispute, and received a letter in January 2003 stating that it was deleted from my file. But then in late 2004, I got my EQ credit report again, and the account was still there. I requested another investigation, but this time they said the account actually belonged to me. I had to put a statement into my credit file insisting that it did not belong to me, despite what EQ claimed. In mid-2007 I disputed the account once again. This time, I received a letter stating that it was deleted (again). The most recent EQ reports through Score Watch indicate this Verizon account no longer exists in my credit file.

So maybe you could wait until EQ sorts things out and mails you a confirmation. But if you don't get any satisfaction, then stick to your guns and keep up the fight. It took me 4.5 years to get rid of my erroneous account, but I prevailed in the end. So can you.

I have news!! Yesterday I had mail from CSC about my credit report, which I thought was to do with our mortgage application (we're midway through buying a house right now), but which on closer inspection turned out to be about my 'recent dispute'. This threw me for a while, until I realized they were talking about the duplicate US Bank inquiry. The letter didn't actually do anything so helpful as to explain this, but it appears that they HAVE removed the duplicate enquiry, at last!

Shame they've done this a whole three weeks before the thing would have been hitting the one year mark and thus not affecting my score anymore, and a couple of weeks too late for it to have any impact on the scores pulled for the mortgage app, but oh well! It seems they do pay attention to these disputes, after all - and there I was thinking they were just ignoring me...

Hope you've had success in getting yours to disappear too! Smiley Happy

Re: Finally...success with removing dup INQ

Update as of 05/17/2008.

Finally, the dup INQ is gone...

I made two more phone calls to my electric company, and the CS manager I spoke with was very apologetic.  He assured me that he would fix this for me.  My DH was afraid that my calling would somehow mess up our electric service.  I think he thought I would be rude to the CS manager. Smiley Tongue   The man knows me very well.

I have been checking every 4 or 5 days (Credit Secure), and this morning, the INQ is gone.  POOF.

Very happy, as EQ hates INQs.

Sent a very nice thank you e-mail to the CS manager for a job well done.
