Re: Going to let 10/10 cards report a balance

Interesting, so the "letting 1 card report" recommendation that so many make doesn't seem to matter for you as you've let multiple cards report with no loss of points for doing so.

The "1 account" recommendation is made because it fits for all profiles. I.e., whether you have 3 revolving accounts, or 30, having 1 report a balance will optimize your score in terms of revolving capacity utilization.

If you have 30 cards, there may be no difference between having 1 report and 10 report.

But if you have 3 cards total, there likely will be a difference between having 1 report and 2.

Re: Going to let 10/10 cards report a balance

If I'm reading your data right, there's been no drops at all from 1 to 8 cards of 10 reporting a balance on TU08?

Re: Going to let 10/10 cards report a balance

That's what I'm saying.  Letting 1 report may be the best move for the majority of people, but there are others that have reported 2, 3 and even many more reporting small balances without any score drop compared to only 1 reporting.  This is good information to know with respect to someones personal profile as it can vary from person to person of course.

Re: Going to let 10/10 cards report a balance

I'm glad that I'm doing this.  It shows me that I can use my cards and let them report modest balances without losing many (any) points.

I wait a few days after the accounts close then confirm that the new balances are on my reports. My EQ08 updates here (Score Watch) and I check my TU08 score before I new updates.

Two things that I believe are helping to keep my scores up are the number of cards and total utilization is low. The highest that will be is about 6%.

Re: Going to let 10/10 cards report a balance

I just signed up for monitoring again and had let 6 of 8 accounts post balances. It didn't affect my FICO 8 or 9 scores at all. FICO 04 did reflect it, I think, but not the 8 or 9. Not at all what I expected!

My scores didn't change much with 10/10 cards reporting. EX08 lost a total of 5 points, EQ08 lost 3 and TU didn't lose any. DCU updated my EQ04 score on Friday. That didn't lose any points from last month.

TU

May - 711
June 11th - 707

June 25th - 703

These scores gained 1 point. Maybe just a little fluctation from a slight AAoA increase?

Time to clean things up a little.  Even thought this has showed me that I can let a bunch of cards report balances, I still like to keep it tight. I've been doing the 1 card thing for awhile so I have a routine. I don't want to keep track of paying to many per month.

Re: Going to let 10/10 cards report a balance

Thank you masscredit for your data points and experiment.

Would  you mind providing more information about your credit profile such as:

How many new accounts do you have in the last 6 months, 12 months and 24 months?

What is your AAoA and oldest card?

Is your credit clean or do you have derogatories?

Do you have an installment loan?

Thank you for any additional information you can provide.
