There are two fields that can report with a credit card by the creditor. The fields are one is called credit limit and the other is high balance. High balance highest balance ever reported on the account. Not sure if the high amount on your credit report is the high balance or not. There are two scenerios one can possibly hurt or score the other probably will not. The first scenerio is creditor reports a high balance of $600.00 but does not report the credit limit. The current balance on the credit card is $400.00. The utilization in this case is 67% which possibly lower your score depending your other credit card accounts if any. The second scenerio is the same as the first but the creditor reports the credit limit of $2000 which makes the utilization 25%. The point is the high balance will be used to calculate the utilization if the credit limit is not reported. If the credit limit is missing I would consider getting that corrected. I hope this helps.
