Why or why not?

In broad general strokes yes; however, lenders are all over the map when it comes to tiering of any product. I know one example of such who's an auto loan sweetheart on this forum at their top tier starts at 675 using EQ Beacon 5.0 for example.
Also it very much depends even on the captive lender what sort of deals they're running; fact is just about literally everyone can get an auto loan... but the FICO score pretty much is the sole determination for the rate you receive.
It's best to shop around as a result when purchasing a car, and fortunately FICO doesn't penalize for the addiotional auto-related inquiries if done within a short enough time frame.
