Life is better, but score is lower?

I've been slowly increasing my FICO score (and doing a pretty good job of it).

This month I moved my secure credit card from $500 limit to $1500 and always keep a low balance on it.  My balance, though, this month, was $6 more than before -- and my FICO score dropped 5 points.

So....This month:

+ CC balance up by $6

+ CC limit to $1500

+ Fico score drops 5 points.

What gives? Smiley Happy

This makes me afraid to do much as it will negatively impact my score.

Any ideas?

Scores are always going up and down. It's just the way it is. You asked for ideas?

Always pay on time.

Keep utilization at 1-9%.

Don't apply for credit you don't need.

Let all your accounts age.

If you have any negative entries on your reports try to get them removed.

It all sounds so VERY boring but it works. I am living proof of it as are hundreds more on these forums.

Also, interest rates for a mortgage usually rely on brackets, so a score of 850 will probably get the same interest rate as somebody who has a 800 (or even a bit lower).

If you are going to buy a house or a car, then I would worry about every little detail for a few months before you bought it, but otherwise just go on with your day to day life.  Do the right things and it will go up over time, don't worry about every little change.

That's a very good point -- it's just that I'm working hard to increase the numbers and I love the feedback of the numbers getting higher and higher Smiley Happy

Thanks all for the input, though.  It's very appreciated!
