It would be very interesting to see what it takes to achieve a score of 850.

The "average" 800 score may have 22 accounts.... but that is no way a cause-and-effect - aiming for a "22 accounts" target certainly will hurt in the short term, and not help all that much in the long term (other than buffering AAoA against future new account openings).
It is quite easy to break 800 on FICO 04/98 scores with 1 open mortgage, 1 open car loan, and 3 cards (+2 AU), or to pin the meter on FICO 8 at 850 with the same mix. (Yes, that's with absolutely no negative info, an AAoA over 8 years, and it's very utilization-sensitive - but it's more that high scores can lead to 22 accounts, not that 22 accounts lead to high scores.)
