Making payments on collection account

I have 2 collection accounts I have been making payments on and I notice that it shows payments and the balance decreasing etc. My question is am I actually hurting myself since the collection would look like a active account rather than a old debt? I track on credit karma and it does say balance has decreased each month but does this help my score at all since its not a current account? Thank you in advance.

Re: Making payments on collection account

Others can give more insight but a few suggestions. Since you are already paying, give the collection agency a ring and try get in writing that they will remove the 'baddies' once paid. Other suggestion is to use CK only for tracking, not as gospel. Their Vantage 3.0 is rarely used and has been known to be far off from other scoring models.

If you are making payments make sure you pay off the collection.  Every time you make a payment your SOL clock resets.  Collection accounts are collection accounts on credit reports.  Iqnoring the collection could lead to a judgment TL.

What is the collection company for these accounts?

CK is going to make you think this is hurting you with scoring reactions because they use FAKO scoring (Vantage) which isn't FICO.  As I said above collection acounts are collection accounts. Its the collection TL hurting your score.  Thats why I asked who the collection companies were, because others here may have advice on how to get them to delete the TL with that company.
