Need advice on restoring credit!

My husband and recently went through a time period with no income for almost 9 months.  In that time period, our mortgage company began foreclosure proceedings which have since ceased.  We are in a workout with them.  Every other loan we have (1 car loan, 2 credit cards, 2 credit lines) have been on time for 5 months.  We both have great jobs now and want to work at restoring our credit.  How is the best way to do this?  I know that continuing to pay on time will help, but are there other things we could do to speed up the process?  We have very small balances on our credit lines and have the means each month to pay them off (one at the time), but have chosen not to in order to make timely payments each month.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
