Question about Average Account Length/History

I understand that average account history has a 15% weight on your credit score. However I'm not sure whether this is referring to average account history for all accounts you've ever had, or just the ones that are currently open. In other words, if I open a Macy's account 6 years ago and closed it a year after opening, is that account affecting my average account history length? Please advise.

Re: Question about Average Account Length/History

Hi, dyrrachium, and welcome to the FICO Forums!

FICO uses the average age of all accounts on your credit report.  There is no part of the average age calculation that just looks at open accounts.

If they are positive accounts, they will stay on your reports for 10 years after they are closed, and in the meantime they will continue to contribute to average age.

Hope this helps!
