Score dropped with Balance decrees by 18 points?

I reicived a SW today.

The changes listed to my credit report was a $794 drop in a balance; and a massive score drop.

The score droped 18 points. From 749 to 731. With the reason of "You've recently been looking for credit."

I pulled AMX CS and my last HP was 4/11/13.

ANy ideas?

Re: Score dropped with Balance decrees by 18 points?

It's not a "massive" score drop. It's well within the normal variations in FICO scores over time. There are many reasons a score could drop 10 or 20 points such as a slightly longer time that a LOC was unused or a minor rebucketing.

I have reestablished credit over the last couple years
so my moniker is, well, rather out of date.

What are your current scores?  The higher they are the more of a drop you will see for different things.  But dropping for a decreased balance doesn't seem normal.

Are you absolutely sure nothing else changed?

Re: Score dropped with Balance decrees by 18 points?

OP, do you have any baddies reporting, like 90+ lates, CAs, COs, BKs, etc.?

Absent any of the above, my vote is rebucketing since all of your accounts change age on the 1st and most rebucketing events occur on that day. 18 isn't bad at all and if rebucketed (vs. status changes, CLD from the paydown if a CC, dropped account (very likely scenario since most drop on the 1st), etc.) it means that you are in a position for a better score later.
