TAX LIEN DISPUTE

Just clicked on 'write a dispute letter' for EQ and rec'd little flag warning advising I "should dispute" tax lien filed 1998 and released 04-2004 "per Fair Credit Reporting Act". I thought liens didnt delete for 7-12 years from release date?! If I could get this to delete, it would be great!

Tax liens normally stay 7 Years from paid-

Oh wow! Good info rom & Timothy! Thank you all. I have 4 tax lien releases sitting in public records that I'd do anything to get them off there.

To be honest I dont even know when this was paid....I wasnt even aware of it til I pulled my credit report back in 2005...for the first time!! I disputed it then (just on grounds of not 'recognizing it' but it came back verified and I just let it go. Stupid I know. Being new at all of this, I didnt think there was anything I could do. Does the myfico 'flag' suggesting to dispute based on reporting time have any merit? Obviously I need to call the state for more info. I have nothing in my records about paying an old lien in 2004 and don't remember doing so. But I dont have records going back further than 2000 and this shows for 1998. Do you think I should try the dispute? Might be easier than trying to get an answer from the state! LOL And believe me, I'll report back if/when it comes off as I'm sure it'll really help my score!
