I was watching clark howard on cnn one day when he mentioned that transunion and experian dont actually use your real fico score when you buy the score from them. That they use their own formula, and that equifax is the only one you can buy your true FICO score from. Is this accurate?
Correct. Transunion.com and Experian.com don't sell FICO scores. They sell their own branded scores and those aren't generally used by lenders. You can get your EQ FICO score from Equifax.com as you found out, from your lender, or from myFICO.com. You can get your TU FICO from your lender, myFICO.com, or from transunioncs.com (note the -cs; different from transunion.com). And finally, as of last year and geee thanks to Experian, consumers can no longer pull their own EX FICO score. However, it is still accessable via their lender or from a CU in PA called PSECU if you happen to have their checking account.
