adding on as AU/JT on spouse's Discover card with long history

(also posted on the Credit Card forum)

I have relatively recent credit history (3 years per myFICO), and my husband and I are considering adding me on his Discover card (open since 1988, perfect history.) I asked Discover if it would be best to go on as an AU or JT, and she said that as a spouse, AU would be fine (CRA's do it differently for friends.) But she said that for my report, the history would only show as beginning when I was added on. She seemed a bit tentative about this. Has anyone had clear experience of doing this, especially with a Discover card--did you "inherit" the age of your newly acquired account? thanks!
