need some FICO help before applying for mortgage

I recently discovered this great site and have been reading everything possible to get educated on this FICO system.  Now I reach out to you "experts" for advice.

I am closing on a new home at the end of June.  I have yet to apply for my mortgage as my EQ score is 655 (as of 4/11/08), and I am hoping to get that up to at least 680.  Here is a brief summary of my situation.

I had a 4 year old CO on an auto loan that lender just agreed was a mistake and removed 2 days ago.

I had a 90 day late early this year on a Chase CC.  Totally my fault - it was the darn residual interest on a cc balance that was paid in full, and I just ignored it, thinking it was paid off.  Tried calling Chase several times to ask them to remove it.  They said legally they cannot.

I have paid cc's down to get UTL from 25% to 5%.

questions:

1) do i write a GW letter to Chase, and even if it works, will it get removed within a week or so?  I really want to get my mtge app in
2) can I dispute it?  will that get it off my CR for 30 days?
3) do i just hope the CO removal and the lowering of my UTL gets me to 680?

thanks in advance for all the help.

Is that your middle score? do you know your other scores? They are going to take the middle of your three scores most likely when they fund your mortgage.

Legally, they can. The CSR you got when you called in either couldn't, or wouldn't.

Call back in and ask for a supervisor. If you still get a no, ask for his/her supervisor. And so on.

You have a great score considering the recent 90 day late-

Keep moving up the chain- It's gonna be a tough one to GW
You just need to be persistent!!!!

I think my scores were in the 700's before that darn 90.

Can you get a GW on the phone, or does it have to be by letter?

You can get one by phone...but I would recommend writing, if you can.
