Amex backdating - SUCCESS

I have been reading countless posts about backdating and am really interested if it is still possible to backdate to the original cardmember's member since date. I just successfully and very easily backdated my account to my AU date. Any experience or advice is greatly appreciated.

I'm a bit confused - you say you just succesfully backdated and then you ask if it's still possible to backdate? You answered your own question.

Sorry let me clarify. I successfully backdated to my AU member since date which is a couple years after the original cardmember's date. I was asking about backdating to the original card members date to gain the extra few years for AAoA. If it is still unclear I will try and clarify and specifically confusing part. Sorry for the confusion

You can't do that anymore. Amex used to backdate to the main cardmember's date but doesn't any longer.

I had some success backdating to my mom's card member date (1999) and this was about 1 month ago.

It's really a YMMV situation ~ many people haven't had success but some people have.  I'd encourage you to try though, it's always worth a shot.

would you mind telling me what number you called and how you went about it? I could really use the AAoA bump

Good luck to you.

When I was added as an "Additional Card Member" in January of this year, they would not backdate me to the original cardmember's date.  I spoke to two different people, and was told by both (one even checked with a supervisor) that they had changed their policy and no longer backdated ACMs to the original cardmember's date.  Someone later posted on here that AMEX changed their policy in November, 2011.

It won't matter to me now as I just got my own card and was given my original "member since" date of 2006 when I had/closed an AMEX account.  However, if there is a backdoor way in that would be great news for a lot of folks.  :smileyhappy:

Re: Amex backdating - SUCCESS

If they have already backdated you to when you first became a member, I sincerely doubt they're going to backdate you to the original cardholder's member since date. There have been a lot of posts over the last 6 mos or so about this. If you search -- maybe Amex backdating additional cardmember or something similar -- you should be able to find the posts.

People used to do this a lot, and Amex caught on. Some people would have member since dates that went back to childhood or even before birth. (e.g. A child as AU on parent's Amex, then grows up and gets their own. Their backdating could be before they were even born!) Consequently, Amex stopped doing this. They only date AUs (which are actually called additional cardmembers) back to when THEY first joined Amex as an AU.

Very rarely will someone still be able to get this done. Since they have already backdated you, you can't really call them and ask them to change your member since date to your original cardholder's member since date. They will only date you back to when YOU first became a member.

Also, Amex does not call this backdating, and you should not use this term if you call them. Use the term, "member since date."

Re: Amex backdating - SUCCESS
Policy is backdating to when you first held Amex as au or original cardholder. Any other further backdating is against policy. Obviously if you get lucky you get rep that doesn't care about policy and with the power to do so. Personally Amex's policy is an attempt to bring them into card act compliance requiring accurate reporting. Old policy lead to silly situations such as people holding Amex before they were born. Given the card act, their current policy might not be in compliance, but I hope this is not the case.
