Re: Updated Scores / new card apps

Updated Scores:

04-09-2012: EXP - 700 EQU - 700 TRANS - 709 AVG - 703

Previous scores:

01-10-2012: EXP - 697 EQU - 709 TRANS - 709 AVG - 705

06-04-2008: EXP - 577 EQU - 530 TRANS - 542 AVG - 550

Whole lotta nothing happening in my CR.  I guess that means I'm gardening.  I have one collection remaining that will be there until 8-2013.  After that, there are 2 accounts with lates that will fall off 7-2014 and 3-2015.  My utilization is varying between 2 and 12%, but currently is 3%.   My AAOA is 4.21 yrs.

The only other thing affecting my score negatively is inquiries, most of which will hit 1 year in July.

If all goes well, I'll be car shopping with wifey in about a year.  At that point we'll have all inquiries out of scoring, and some more distance from the baddies.  Hopefully that will be enough to get us the best rate on a loan.  We'll see how it goes.

In the meantime, no apps.  None.  As much as I'm eyeing the Sapphire Preferred, it will have to wait until after the car.

Re: DEBT ELIMINATION PLAN UPDATE

Still working on debt elimination.  Ended up not selling the old jeep, so we didn't use that cash to wipe out the student loan.  Wifey's new job will come with a car allowance, so that will all go to paying the new jeep, while I drive the old one and we work it hard for a year.  Then, when the new is paid off, we'll get her a new car that fits her car allowance and finally get rid of the old jeep, hopefully wiping out the student loan.

That should leave us with 1 mortgage,  1 car loan, and no other debt.  Rolling that extra monthly cash into the new loan should wipe it out quick, allowing us to eventually devote all of our attention to the mortgage.

Not to rant, but both her parents and mine are nearing retirement.  And both have a mortgage hanging over their heads.  We hope to learn from this, and be mortgage free in the next 15 years.

Here it is -

Sent you a PM, hope you have better luck than me.  Just a tip - usually you can find the names of corporate officers by going to the "Investor Relations" page.  Here is a link to verizon's:

Good luck!

Short answer: Depends on what's on your report.  There are three initial angles of attack, all of which should be applied at the same time.

1.  Optimize utilization.  If you have more than 9% of available credit in use, reducing it will make a difference.

2.  Eliminate negative accounts.  Offer PFD to legitimate collections, dispute inaccurate information, and send GW letters to zero balance accounts.

3.  Establish a history of responsible credit use.  That means pay on time, all the time.  If you've messed up in the past, use GW letters to get rid of late payments in your history.

There are many other things you can do once you get into it, like avoiding inquiries, and managing your account mix... But these basic three are a good starting point.  Banks want to lend you money.  They want to earn the interest, but they have to make sure you pay it back.  If you've had trouble paying back in the past, of course they are nervous about lending to you.

Speaker; have you pulled your report?  What's holding you back right now?

Anytime.  Let me know if you get anywhere.  I've pretty much given up on them.
