Unfortunately, that's the nature of online forums (no matter the venue) - they have a tendency to bring out the worst in people due to the anonymity. People let their other "nasty" side come out many times because they don't see the need for a filter.
There are several on here, though, who always remain positive and helpful in their posts/responses - kudos to them!
