Why is it that I get the alert that my score changed and the reasons after I pay for another score? Does the function even work on its own?
The only myFICO product that offers a TransUnion alert is FICO Quarterly Monitoring. Is this what your were using?
Yes that is it. As soon as I bought the new score/report it gave me the alerts for a few things from this week, as well as another alert from about a balance increase from almost two weeks ago.
I had been waiting for an alert but wanted to know that score so bought it. Low and behold, any changes miraculously appeared as alerts dated 6-1-12, the date of my purchase. I won't be renewing this subscription. I would rather buy the report.
Are you certain? You mentioned 'TransUnion alert' which promted the questions. FICO Quarterly Monitoring (monitors TU only....we call it TUQM) doesn't give credit alerts or score alerts. It's not like SW. It's a pre-paid plan for your TU FICO report where you get a new TU FICO report every 3 months. There are no interim credit or score alerts. Unless you pull a new TU FICO report in between the 3 months, you won't know of any score or credit changes until the 3-month mark comes up again.
Now TUQM will provide non-credit specific alerts. It monitors your TU report and other sources outside of TU for changes to your demogrpahic info. These include items like changes to your SSN, changes to your name, changes to your address, changes to your phone, and other potential indicators which might indicate ID theft. But you'd never get alerted to balance changes, score drops, etc. because it only monitors quarterly when it gives you the new report.
Under quarterly monitering there is a blue view now button. Press that and up at the top I press alerts and it lists variuos changes under "score changes" and "balance increases" categories.

If you look into your report history the "date detected" corresponds to your TU report purchases only. These include the one-time pulls and includes the quarterly reports. These alerts don't come until you pull your report and don't arrive in between your report pulls. In other words, the alerts you saw came at the exact same time you purchased a new TU report (or had one pulled for you via TUQM).
Okay, so there are no alerts with this one. So basically it basically provides a 'discounted' report every three months (4.95 a month x 3) that you pay for over the three months.
Exactly. It's a pre-paid plan for 4 reports per year, plus 20% off all future TU pulls. This comes in handy if you plan to pull your TU FICO report more than a three times a year.
