Approved for Amex Everyday!!! Pretty Shocked.

Hey guys, Im new here, so bear with me please.

I started working on my credit about a year ago and I started by applying for a Chase Freedom. Yes, it was a risk I know. Im actually only a second year college Undergraduate student, 19, so my income is fairly low. 19,000 including all my sources of money. Part Time Job, money college pays me, parents.

Short story, I was denied and settled for a Capital One Secured. I worked on my credit for a few months and got my Chase Freedom application approved for $500.
Fast forward a few months, My Chase Freedom gets a cli of 500 to 1000.

Then I apply for a Discover It, an Amazon Rewards Visa, and a Capital One Journey. I applied for all 3 at once because I thought theyd all be dropped at the same time next year. Shocked to find out Im approved. 1500 for the Amazon, 500 for the Discover It, and 1000 for the Journey.

Later on In the year, I closed my Rewards Visa, and had Chase transfer my credit for the Amazon Rewards to my Chase Freedom, giving it a total of 2500.

I just applied for the Amex Everyday on a whim, and they approved it instantly with only an income of 19k, And the shocking part is that they gave me a 10,000 dollar credit limit o_o.

So after a year in this effort to build my credit I have a score of 720, and about 15% utilization.

Would any of you be worried if you were suddenly approved for a 10,000 dollar Amex without any inquiry? o:

Holy kittens thats amazing lol Congrats! I wouldn't necessarily be worried but maybe a bit shocked at the initial limit. Did you go through the pre-approval process on the Amex website to see if any offers were available for you before applying? This card is on my wishlist but I'm gardening until February/March. Happy day for you

Thanks! Ive been vying for an Amex for a while now. And yeup :3 I always try to take use of promotions before applying.

10,000 points after spending 1000, and 15 months no interest. The 15 months no interest is especially helpful for me since im still a student and it gives me more flexibility with my spending.

Looking forward to pulling this out at the restauraunt lul.

And I honestly dont even dream that theyd bring me up to a 30k limit unless my income jumped something drastic LOL. Ill keep that in mind for when I graduate from my nursing program though :3

Grats man! Use the Amex line responsibly and other lenders usually will follow suit and start giving out larger lines. Capital One is tight with me too. I started out with the Journey card as well recently product changed to Quicksilver. Had the card for almost 5 years.

Congratulations on your new approval! However, something very similar to this happened to me when I applied for my second Amex card (I was shocked too because I have a similar profile as you other than having an Amex already). I called in the automated system to check my credit limit and was told I was approved for 10,000. I couldn't believe it, so I waited to get transferred to a customer service rep and asked her directly. She told me it was 1,000. I asked why it didn't match to what the automated line stated, and she apologized then promised she would investigate how it was repeating wrong information. Then she transferred me on to a credit analyst who confirmed this. I complained to him more and he processed a credit limit increase to 7,000 dollars immediately, rather than having to wait a period after getting the card. So, if you got this info from the automated line do double check! If not, then I am truly shocked as well and Congratulations again!
