Barclay Arrival+ WEMC approval after recon! :)

I really wanted this card, and couldn't stay in the garden.

I applied, got the 10 day message, and when I checked application status, it said:

Currently we are unable to offer you a credit card issued by Barclays Bank Delaware. Details on why we could not make you a credit offer will be mailed to you."

I was sad.

I called the recon line today, and was immediately connected with a very pleasant woman. She went over my employment status/income, and said she'd be right back to tell me what she could do for me. When she came back on, she asked what I use my cards for, how much I spend each month, and how much I pay. "So it sounds like you run a lot through your cards and pay way above your minimum payments, that's great." Then she asked about some "problems" she saw back in 2008 with my late student loan payments. She thought my DEPT EDU/Sallie Mae TLs were a few mortgages. I explained the situation at the time to her, and how back then each semester/year appeared on my CRs as their own loan, despite me paying just one consolidated payment to Sallie Mae, so that it's not really 12 lates, but 3.

She said my current account history with Barclay looked great, and that it appeared I'd done a good job rebuilding since my troubles with my student loan, and was pleased to approve me for the Arrival+ WEMC for $5K.

This is my first recon of a denial, and it worked! I'm so thrilled!!

Now, if only the Citi EO would return my call...

Last week, I was approved, too, for the same card with a CL of $2,500. What are the chances that they would give me a higher CL (without another hard pull, preferably), if I spoke to them? And should I contact the number on the back of my card or the recon department? Thanks in advance!

Just got off the phone with Barclaycard recon. I told the gentleman that I was recently approved for $2,500 and was looking to see if I could get a higher CL. He asked me how much I wanted and if there was any particular reason for the higher CL request. After that, he asked a few questions about employment, and said that he could certainly approve me for $5,000, based on my income and my recent credit report that he acquired with a soft inquiry. Should've asked for higher, lol. Barclaycard's recon is great, indeed.
