Jared - Banana Republic - Walmart - Approved!! 3/3

Well it has been quite a while since I have done anything with my credit, other than student loans and 3 CCs (one from '08, one from '10, another from spring '12). I just wanted to share my story for those that may find it useful in the future. I am quite happy with the results so far! This was all done with a score of EQ 643 and UTIL of ~90% on 3 accounts (I know, I know, absolutely terrible. But it was necessary I promise - will be paid down in a few months).

I wanted to get my GF a graduation gift, and from what I had read on these forums Jared is a good account to have. So I went to the Jared store and applied for credit. They had to call me to verify employment, so I gave them a phone number for my employer. The credit rep was then grilling the lady at jared, apprently asking if I was actually in the store, my hair color, height, etc. Sure enough, she ended up giving me CL of 5000!! That was just under my highest CL! That lady at jared then says well you can buy whatever you'de like. Boy did that feel good!! Not to mention my UTIL dropped to the 60s

I went into Banana Republic today and got approved for a CL of 600! Nothing crazy, but given my score I will take it! I just want to have it for the CLIs and I will eventually use it in the future.

After that, I applied for walmart online. I wanted it mainly for the TU Credit Score, but also the CLIs. Submitted my application and I saw the dreaded "You will be notified by mail in 7-10 days". My heart dropped. I wasn't about to let this happen. I did some searching for some numbers, and called a backdoor number. Spoke to one rep, and he forwarded me to an account specialist. He then had to ask me a few really random questions for identity purposes... and boom! I was approved!! Another 600 CL! Not too shabby imo. All I really wanted was the approval. Now time to sit back until its all paid down.

I have been crawling these forums for a while, but this is my first post. I felt that I had to share what happened, and I am super excited about it!! Hopefully it is somewhat useful to someone somewhere!

Congrats! And welcome to the forums! The good thing about the Banana Republic and Wal-Mart is that they both will upgrade to a major card. BR=VISA, WM=Discover

Thanks!! Yes, I plan to be in the garden for at least six months - when my balances are paid down and then maybe, just maybe I will apply for another major card. Or I will just sit with CLIs for another 6-7 months. Only time will tell.

Yes, I also am excited that these cards will hopefully be upgraded eventually. Makes me feel much better about the HP and new account!
