I am looking to apply for the American Express Everday Preferred card and want some advice. I have a 746 CK score, a 715 Experian, and am wondering if I will get approved. I have one late payment from about 3 years ago and 4 credit cards with a total CL around 8500. Amex just mailed me a pre-approved offer for a Platinum card, but I am not sure if that really means anything. In the last week, I paid off all of my cards and am waiting for the due dates to come and the card companies to report that to the credit bureaus.

What are my chances of approval and what can I do to insure I get this card?

When is the best time to apply? Are there any tricks with American Express for credit limits or length of card held?

Thank you for your help.

I applied for the AMEX EDP a few months back, my file was extremely thin but my experian score that AMEX used was a 748 and I was declined. At that time I only had 5 credit card payments under my belt on my only credit card. The only other thing on my report was a 8 year old car loan that was paid as agreed. I was declined for the AMEX EDP. I called and asked for a reconsideration and was approved about 4 hours later.

I think you should go ahead an apply, if you are not approved instantly call in and ask them if they need more information. If they tell you it has been denied immediately ask for a reconsideration. You don't need to prepare a presentation. With AMEX a reconsideration is simply a manual review of your credit file.

Good luck!
