Chase Experiment: Chase Ritz Carlton Approval for 5K and a Chase Amazon decline

Got declined for the Chase Amazon once again but on a whim, also decided to app for the Ritz Carlton and somehow that app went into verification and they're going to ask me some questions there. One HP on EQ. Currently on the phone right now to see if they need anything. Weird how Chase can be so completely different with various cards. Freedom and Amazon I've never been able to get ever but it's a completely different story with these other kinds of cards.

Update: Got approved 5K for the Ritz Carlton! Holy crap! My first metal card is coming here. Only thing bad about this is that steep annual fee but I think I can manage. Lol. I wonder when I should start seeing the new card on my Chase login. I don't see it yet and I should have asked the guy on the phone.

They were going to ask me verification questions but got everything verified right there. That was the fastest verification process I've ever had with Chase. I really don't understand it either besides the fact they just wanna really push this Ritz Carlton card out to people.

They also told me it can take up to 7 days for me to be able to see the account on my login page because they have to get all the membership stuff set up first.

681 on EQ with about 11 inquiries. I really think they relied more on the internal score for the Ritz than the FICO since I've been with Chase since this August. This is my third card with them and another cobranded one too.

By one HP I meant that they just used the same pull for this card.

Here's how it's been with me.

I got approved for my first Chase card back in August and they already started me out with 5K and it was a similar situation where I had gotten declined for the Chase Amazon (note to self, got to stop bothering applying for this card in the first place) a month before. That application went into verification for a few days and that came back with an approval. I took advantage of the sign up bonus on that card and two months later, went for the Chase AARP card. That took a week or so of verification until they came back with an approval.

Fast forward two months and here we are. Seems like if you space the applications out by like 2 or 3 months, then you're fair game for these kinds of cards.

I still find it really weird how they won't budge on the Freedom or Amazon cards for me but are willing to give me another 5k limit travel card with no problem. I hadn't incurred any new inquiries on EQ since getting declined for the Freedom last month.

Thanks! I'm cautiously optimistic that they didn't do an EX pull for me. The only time that's happened at all has been with the Freedom card.

The Chase amazon visa is wild! More people get declined for it and get the other "harder" cards Chsae have to offer.. I am absolutely lost with there thought pattern on it.. I see people all the time myself included getting turned down for the amazon visa but getting the freedom or whatever. Make 0 sense. Damn I wonder if I would get approved.. Only had my Freeedom since the 16thof last month and first charge was on the 19th or something, put 1k through it so far all paid in full... Ugh choices! Wonder if they would use my same TU pull or be a new one... oh my... I haven't seen one person get declined on this CC yet, granted pretty good profiles.

This is why you don't see many get declined. Not many people with a 550 score will apply to something that costs $395/yr up front. (I know FP CAN get this expensive once you put all the nickels and dimes together though )

Exactly what I was thinking. That card is bipolar for some reason. It's supposed to be their "easiest" card to get for a lot of people and it has benefits that I really want too, though I guess I'll have better luck trying the Sallie Mae MC again in the future so I kinda won't need that card anyway if I got that one instead. My theory is that since they're doing this huge sign up offer on the Ritz that they want as many people to have the card. That's the only way that I can explain this is that on some of their cards they just rely on the internal score more than the FICO. I have a feeling Amazon Visa is more FICO based and the denial reason for that was too many requests for credit.

Congrats on the approvals. Like others I was hesitant to apply since I was declined for the Amazon Visa and had 39 inquiries on EX and 32 on EQ. Well, I finally just closed my eyes and hit the submit button after like 15 minutes of going between the application and the forum here to read about others approvals...

In case anyone was curious, for my application they pulled both TU and EX. My EX had 39 inquiries before the application with about 25 this year and TU only had 8.
