Discover IT Student Auto CLI

Discover hasn't given me very much love. I've requested for a couple soft CLIs with no luck, and I managed to go from $500 to $850 by calling underwriting. I woke up to a surprising email today:

Congratulations! We're pleased to inform you that your outstanding credit management in the first year has earned you a credit line increase on your Discover it® card.

The new credit line on your Discover card account is $1,100.

In the coming months, we will continue to evaluate your account in the first year and may continue increasing your credit line if you qualify. If you would prefer not to receive automatic credit line increases, simply give us a call at 1-800-347-3085.

It's not a huge jump, but overall I was pleasently surprised to finally get out of the hundreds with Discover. It has been about a year exactly since I applied for the card. I have an unreal number of inquires, so I was shocked to see this.

May I ask what did you tell the underwriter to increase your limit to $850? And is it a HP?

When I called underwriting it was a hard pull.

I explained that I was in school and wanted to use my Discover to purchase books, and argued that other large banks offer me much larger credit limits. I wanted to axe any card less than $1,000, but they wouldn't budge past $850 at the time so I let it sit longer.
