I finally bit the bullet and took a hp to get a cli with Discover. I'm just tired of not seeing that credit limit grow.. I was at 1500.00 and asked for 3000.00 and was approved. I should have asked for more but I got alittle nervous with them. I did wait and call them while I had a balance on my card since last time I called the csr was not very nice. I use that card all the time and she told me I was not using the card so she did not understand why I needed an increase. I just told her to forget the increase *lol* I'm starting to realize that Discover is one that wants you to have a balance and I pif a few days after I make a charge.

Never let a CSR speak to you that way. If one ever says anything that ridiculous ever again, tell them it's in their best interest (see what I did THAR) to give you a CLI, otherwise they'll never see a dime out of you in interest payments since at a low limit, you can easily clear the card with cash every month.

They should WANT to give you a limit increase to an amount you can't pay off monthly in hopes you'll make a large purchase and take a few months to pay it off. Whether or not that's actually the case is a different story... no one knows your finanical situation but you. It's something a CSR could never call you out on.

This is the only way they'll ever make a dime off you. Also, be sure to make them feel extra stupid for not figuring that one out on their own.

+1 @kblatt I agree. Asking for a cli from $1500 is not unreasonable. Putting any type of every day spending on that will get your util rate up unless you pay off multiple times per month. I don't want high CLIs because I'm going to use all of that amount but I don't want to make multiple payments every week either.
