Approved Chase Slate....UPDATE! Approved Freedom as Well :)

Well I was surfing the web and accidentally landed on the Chase Pre-Qualified site to see if I had any offers. Been trying for over a year now and I never had any. Low and behold, I had two. Freedom and Slate. Since Slate is a pretty good bt card I decided what the hell. Apped. Went to review. Called backdoor analyst. Placed on hold 5 mins. Then bam approved for $2200. That's it???? Ugghhh. Lot of good that will do me as far as bt card. Oh well. My first Chase card. I'm finally in folks!

Bittersweet but the best part is finally IN WITH CHASE!!!

congrats! I did the same thing but I went with the freedom instead since I don't really need to do any balance transfers lol

You can PC it to a Freedom in the long run or just app for another chase card in a few months, move the CL of the Slate over and close it (they might tell you have to leave $500 on the Slate though, that's how my Chase SW card consolidation went).

Once you've really established a good track record with Chase, they will treat you amazingly well and you'll be able to get other cards with them in no time. I'm going for the Chase Ink Cash soon which I think will be a lot better for me than the Slate in a lot of ways. They also tend to give out good limits with their cobranded AF cards IMO. I would have also just gone for the Freedom anyway because that has a 0 APR offer too. You can do another Chase app within 30 days if you want to see if you can get the Freedom on the same HP. I'd do it now for the best chances.

So popamode72 are you saying go back and app Freedom as well since I was pre-qualified for both? I can do two apps in one day??

Yes! Just don't do more than two within a 30 day period or you're guaranteed to get ehhhh results with Chase. It's doable.

I'm assuming you applied for the Slate today, right? You have nothing to lose by trying for a second Chase card now. If they tell you no, you can always try again in the future. I've been able to get Chase cards about every 2-3 months.

Yes I applied like 30 mins ago. I'm just concerned about my AAOA. Plus I'm going for my 6 months Amex cli next month and don't won't them tripping too much over new accounts. Plus, I hear that Freedom is redundant if you have Discover(which I do). Thoughts?

You don't have to go for the Freedom necessarily if you don't want it. Are there any other Chase cards you want? I think one of the big reasons people have the Freedom is to compliment having the CSP for being able to transfer UR points.

I wouldn't worry so much about Amex. In my experience, they really aren't as sensitive to inquiries/new accounts as much as other lenders. I've been able to get three revolvers with them without a problem and got a decent CLI on my Delta Gold too.

Well I REALLY want AARP. So I guess I will just be a good lil baller and show some history on the Slate then app for AARP and transfer Slate limit over in 6 months or so? Good plan?

In a way it's kind of redundant since they both have the changing 5% cash back categories, but if it makes you feel any better I have both cards as well

That will also work. If it makes you feel a lot better, go for it after you've gone for your CLI on Amex. I was able to get my AARP two months after getting in with Chase. Took about a week of verification time. It's an excellent card IMO.
