Another Discover CLI, $500 bump

I don't know how much my email to the EO yesterday (didn't get a response back) had to do with anything, but I logged into my Discover account tonight and saw that they gave me another $500 CLI, so my limit on this card matches my CapOne Quicksilver now at 1.5k.

I would have ideally liked my limit to be $3k but at least this card isn't my lowest anymore and it now matches one of my other cards so hmmmmm. I think my last CLI was back in December so not too long ago. I'll definitely see if in a couple of months I can get this bumped up even further but I'm amazed that this card is finally starting to make some progress.

As you know Discover is conservative ... congrats on getting a CLI! Stay the course as they do grow accounts over time.

The wife's Discover is due for a 6mo SP CLI soon too. I wonder what it'll be like. Hopefully $1,500-$2,000.

WoW! Congratulations! How long did you have to wait for a cli? Have you had the card for longer then 3 months?

I've had my card since April of last year. It's my third oldest card behind the CapOne and up until recently had used it a lot. Recently PIF on it entirely and was able to get my HP CLI of $500 in December and now I just buy $1.99 Amazon gift cards to keep it active but given these events and how they have 5% cashback on gas, it's ready to come out of the sock drawer now.

super conservative. I have perfect history and usage with them (at least in my opinion, that is) and after 1.5 years I finally hit the CLI button and they only gave me pittance in comparison.... anything is something though.

I can agree with that statement so I'm very fortunate that through enough persistence and patience I've been able to get results from them in some way. They are very different than say Amex when it comes to these matters. I'm still figuring out Discover sometimes but I think I'm starting to respect them a lot more than I used to.

This card's initial limit was $500 and it was a college card BTW so compared to that, this card is a lot more usable to me now, especially if I wanna use it to pay some bills. I'll still put the majority of my spend on Chase for the most part and Amex somewhat but this card will be seeing much more of the light of day too. I like how Barclays also stepped up to the plate as of recently and especially after the Citi closures. I've gained back even more than what I had before from Citi and definitely want to get my Lowes back in the future once things have completely died down and are more stable.

I think it's a YMMV situation with a lot of people. Some people have had success with consistent auto CLIs even when they don't use the card much anymore and others have had trouble trying to get anything from Discover beyond a HP $500 CLI and some people have gotten just $250 increases. With people with thinner files and not as many cards, they also tend to be more giving in terms of starting limit. I still haven't quite figured out how their marketing works at all.

They will do SP CLIs on request and if they can't do that, they tell you up front whether it's gonna be a HP or not.

My first CLI was a $250 but it was an auto CLI. My next two CLIs were requested by me through the CRs by telephone with no HP spread over 2+ years.

It's an acronym for "your mileage may vary" commonly used on the forum.

And also there have been stories of people getting CLIs when they have a balance on the card too.

There's one other detail I forgot to mention.

I got this increase 5 days after my latest statement generated so perhaps it was one of their auto CLIs too and not something the EO did. Had a small $1.99 balance on the card that Discover gave me a credit for to pay it down to 0 and now I have that $1.99 balance again since I bought that Amazon gift card. I'm in the 10th month of having this card.

Thanks! I also saw that I had a BT offer. 0 APR for 12 months, 18.99% APR afterwards. Just submitted a BT request for my CapOne card and hopefully I might even see more of an increase because I used one of their offers and PIF on whatever I transferred.
