Got My Mom a Fingerhut Account and Secured CapOne card

Surprised that they approved her for the Fingerhut Advantage version too rather than the FreshStart. CL of $500 and considering she has medical collections, two closed First Premier cards from years ago that had balances, and some other kinds of collections, I'm really surprised. She's an AU on my AARP and an AU on my sister's CapOne card, which I think the limit of that one is either $300 or $500.

Discover wouldn't approve her because of the collections that are still on her report. I might get her a secured CapOne card in her name too. I'm also aware BoA has that $99 deposit secured card that they offer to folks to who get declined for their stuff but I really doubt with the baddies my mom has, she'd be able to qualify.

She still has the Credit One account though. :/

Looks like my mom qualifies for the $49 deposit secured CapOne card too. There was a screen saying that she's almost approved but she just needs to send the deposit in.

Congrats to DM! If she could clear up those collections via dispute, PFD, etc. ... that would give her the biggest lift. Careful though if they fall off soon as you don't want them to get re-dated for another 7 years.

Just steal her CruddyOne card and accidentally toss it in a wood chipper...

If she complains have her call CriminalOne and request a replacement. Perhaps when she sees how they nickel and dime she'll come around.

That might work. Other than hearing about how much they suck, I have no idea how bad their fees are. First Premier was obviously much worse too.

Also really good news for my dad.

He got the majority of his derogs off his TU report and the only derogs on his report now are two released tax liens and two old collections from 2010 and 2011. His EQ has three medical collections (that's really about it on that one) but overall he's really come a long way. He has a lot less derogs on his reports now than my mom does and has had a Nordstrom card since October. His EX though still has several baddies on it and late payments apparently according to Credit.com.

I wonder what CCs will accept him now. Strangely I don't see his secured Discover card on any of his reports even though he told me he got his a while ago.
