In a recent discussion on the CC thread I was thinking about a Chase Amazon, but Nixon tawked me out of it. I only recenty became aware of how all this works. I have a local bank Visa, and AMEX card, both are 30 year old accounts, and until recently the only cards I owned. I would sometimes go years without using them. My parents were products of the great depression, and I was taught/instructed charging stuff was bad.

I went back and looked over my needs to find the card that fit my lifestyle, and the AARP does the job. Empty nest, we eat out a lot, and we like to drive/ride so gas perks were important. No AF and 1% on everything else. I got the further review note on submit. Called the recon number supplied here.

"Look here, I just got shot down on the AARP card" I'm liking that card for the dining and gas."

The young man said, "hold on lemme check it." He asked for my SSN.

"yeah, you have a Freedom, we were kinda wanting to see a little more history with us, but otherwise you're good." He wanted my income and mortgage payment.

"House is paid for" But I didnd't tell him was building a new house, but he could see that if he was looking at my CR.

"alright you're good to go, CL 2000, will that work?"

"That's alot of big macs"

"LOL well you said you like to eat out, but you can use it alot of places"

"I appreciate you taking care of that for me, that'll work fine."

"Thanks for being a Chase customer"

So next thing I did was get the bank on the phone that holds my 37 year old visa card, that was once a name I can't remeber before they changed it to Visa. The local bank that issued the card was bought out in the 90s by a large regional bank.

Now that I'm educated on this stuff I asked the lady.

"M'am how long have I had this credit card?"

"Since 1977"

"So why am I still paying a AF? Take that off"

"Ok done"

I was gonna ask her for a CLI but put that on hold for now.

All these years I never knew enough you could do that till I joined fico.

Congrats!! AARP is a great card. I use it more than any other.

I have to say, I would have totally asked for a CLI on the other card and a product change to something with rewards. Call them back!

Hey, just a minute!!!! I also talked you out of the Chase Amazon Visa AND I was the one in the thread who suggested the AARP card in the first place and I don't get any mention? For shame.

I'm just teasing (sort of). I'm glad you listened to us and went for a card that will suit your needs a little bit better. Congratulations!
