I finally got my foot in the door with an Amex Green card and thankfully my Wife was also approved last week for their Everyday card.

Back in 2008 she had a card with Amex which I was an authorized user/account member on. I know the card was paid off but can't remember why we or Amex closed it. On our reports it does say paid as agreed and closed by grantor or something like that.. either way the account was in good standing.

Upon her approval last week, we created her online account and logged in and saw "Member since 2008.." on the homepage and was definitely happy to see that!

I was just approved and created my account but instead it says member since 2015? I thought that I would also get the backdating since I was on the account and it shows on my CR also.

Ive read a few recent postings and they all say different things when it comes to this specific situation so I would appreciate if the community could shed some light on this for me???

Thank you!

I just got my BCE backdated to 1991 a few days ago. I went to chat and they told me to call their CSR. I sent them an email from my account and they answered back in a day with my request to be backdated from being a AU on my grandmothers green card and sent me the new card with the new MSD. They even apologized for not seeing this earlier after I was approved for the BCE.

They definitely backdate. Give them a bit. It took them about 6 weeks before it showed up on mine. And this was one of the first cards I had a LONG time ago!

Congrats!!!!! I was able to obtain my previous date through requesting it via chat session. I did not mention "BD" but referenced my older account date and asked would it be possible. They took care of it!

Thanks alot everyone. I read some posts stating that Amex is no longer offering Amex backdating due to people abusing the perk but I will give it a shot.

I'm just a little scared because I feel I wasn't even worthy to get a Green with my score (around 680) ... and don't want to raise any red flags. I also tried for the Amex Everyday immidiately after but was denied

What do you guys think?

Thanks again for all the useful info as always!

There were no qualms at all when I asked. I would still have my BCE with a MSD of 2015 if not for the folks on this forum. GO FOR IT!!! You'll be happy you did. Just don't say "backdating". Look at my scores and they gave me the 1991 backdate...

Just go to chat and say "hi, my card came with MSD 15 but I was a cardholder in XX, can you please update my MSD, thank you"

They will put a request and you will have your MSD date and will show online. Good luck.

They definitely backdate....I was an authorized user on a previous boss' amex in 2007 and when I got approved for Amex 2 days ago and set up my account it said member since 2007. Give them a call and ask. I'm sure they'll set it up for you. Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone.

I tried live chat but only option is to leave a message. Its 12:30AM EST so I assume they don't provide live help during these hours? I'll try again in the morning though.

Nevermind. I just logged into my account and it looks like they did it automagically so thankfully, I didn't have to call or contact them

Another question I had is.. since I now have my own MSD .. my dad his Amex back in the 80s/90s I believe. If I had him add me as AU to his card, would I MSD go back even FURTHER or would I have to stick with the 08 date?

It backdates to the time when you get your Amex for the very first time, Either as AU or your own. Once you have your MSD, after that adding yourself to any card with older MSD will not help you change your original MSD. If you had done it a few years back, (even before adding yourself on the 2008 card), then it was probably possible.
