this just happened when I tried AMEX 3x CLI

So I am at $8400 currently. I went onlice and requested a CLI to a new limit of $24,500 (less than 3x). It gave me the 7-10 day message. So I called asking if maybe I was a day or 2 early for my 6 mo request. She said that the need more information and are sending me a form. She said it wasnt a declination, however I still asked if I could cancel the request and if I did, how long do I have to wait to ask again?

She said because it wasnt a declination, that I cancelled request, that I could re-request a cli at any time.

So, what just happened? Should I try again for a lower limit? I really dont want to go through waiting for a form in the mail, etc.

Probably the tax transcript form. From you signature if they gave you that CL you would have close to 39k Revolving credit with Amex. Not sure what you income is or any of that, but my guess is your overall exposure with them and they want to check up and see your financial situation. No magic number on this, but most likely you got them curious.

Most likely a 4506T tax verification. You could try requesting a lower limit right now, as people have reported successes using this method (asking for a lower limit immediately after getting the 7-10 day message).

Thanks. Since I cancelled my last request I went in now and asked for a lower amount per your advice.

Was auto-approved for an increase from $8400 to $18,000.

$39k is a lot of money from one creditor I'd imagine for the average joe.

yeah, Im sure thats it. Income is $72K so I can see where $39K is stretching it. Didnt even think of that. Certainly am fine with what I have, and mainly wanted to bump limit on this one since its my favorite card. I only have $2500 max at a given time on it and wanted higher limit for utilization purposes ( upcoming mortgage app). thanks all!

Congrats. This happened to me in dec. I asked for 30k and got the 7-10 day message. I went back and put a dessert amount and was approved for $25k. When the letter came, it was the income verification form.
