Capital One Credit Increase

Hello everone

I've always wondered if the Credit Limit Increase on the Capital One website ever worked. In the past they haven't been too helpful when it comes to raising the limit as I've seen across these boards and many sites. Currently I have 3 capital one credit cards. One from college (2007) that has was probably overlimit repeately throughout my whole college career (5 years for a Math Bachelor's Degree ), another from 2012 that was orginally HBSC that I got last minute because I wanted extra money when I went to Las Vegas a month later (foolish, I know), and the last being in May of 2014 from a pre-approvel offer via the mail. The limits for those cards were 500, 300, and 750 respectfully. Well since I got a better job as of 2012, I've been able to go on a lot more road trips with family and friends over the past years. Well i can't do too much with hotels and rental cars with those amounts which is what tempted me in the first place. And getting the $750 gave me a little bit of hope that my score had increased some. I had ran 2 of my free reports in March of 2014 (the other in Aug 2014) so I had an idea of what was on my CC but no idea of what the scores were.

The first card I went for was, of course, the one with the $300 limit that was originally a HBSC card. I went through the website and applied on 8/25/14. Of course, not to my amazement, I got denied. Equifax had reported a credit score of 475 with a date of 7/29/2014 [I had a LOT of collections and SERIOUS delinquencies, and baffeled me how I was able to get a $750CC from them]. Seeing that number was a wake-up call, so I took my old CC reports went through them and decided to start taking care of some stuff. The good thing is that a lot of stuff was expected to fall off in another month or so. So I did what I could and waited.

On Jan 11, 2015 I decided to give a go at the $300 limit card again. Declined again due to an Equifax score of 553 dated 11/25/2014. I was upset, BUT I did notice the credit score increase. Well one of my New Years resolutions was to fix my credit. So I had ended up joining this site as I had started to come here frequently anyway just without an account. I took a look at my updated CC and noticed a lot more positives but also a few additional negatives. Since I joined Jan 4th, I've leared how to use my CCs better, written my first good will letter, as well as learned tons of additional information.

Well, I attempted again today (3/22/15). But, I went for the $750 card first instead since it's been close to a year. To my amazement, as of an hour ago I was approved for a higher credit limit! So I said, well might as well try the $500 card. Approved. And the $300 card that has been fighting me? Approved.

I now have credit limits of $1,500 (was 500), $800 (was $300), and $2250.00 (was $750). I'm at work spining in my chair with glee. Though I am a "new" member, the tips on this site has been excellent and very useful over the past year when it has come to repairing my rocky college credit history. Thanks so much!
