Approved for AMEX PRG!

Hey there,

Well, I'm fast approaching my goal collection of cards! I was just approved for the AMEX PRG exactly one week after getting the Delta gold business AMEX. I now have the airline card I prefer and a charge card with nice rewards that I've always wanted. Next and finally for a long time will be either a PC of this PRG to a platinum (assuming I end up traveling more and justify the AF) or a new app for a business platinum (I don't know yet), along with the AMEX SPG since I'm loyal to their program. I'd like to one day have a CSP, but it's not high on the list. That's all I can think of for my goal cards. I have a good set of Visa/MC and now I have my AMEX as my preferred method, so I'm good!

Thank you all for the millionth time for all your guidance and support. It feels great to have some shiny gold big boy cards in the wallet!

I got the 25k bonus, I haven't seen 50k anywhere. Any way I can find it and request it? Also, I think they give bonuses if you PC to platinum because it's a new product, but I think I have to wait a year or something like that. I've heard of 100k bonuses for platinum, so I'll likely look out for big bonuses like that and then apply. I'll want to wait at least 9-12 months anyway unless something amazing happens to my score sooner and maybe I'll just get a business Plat or something. We'll see how it goes, I'm not in a rush for that one.

Thanks everyone! I'm excited. It arrives today by UPS overnight. I didn't even have to ask! I know some people aren't impressed with Amex, but in my experience so far (though I know it's early), they're exactly what I expected. The rewards programs are excellent (both for Delta and the MR points), and I have yet to find better customer service. The outsourced new accounts team is very robotic and not much more helpful than the computer, but the reps from the main customer service line are fantastic. These people are very human too. They're very friendly and kind of go with the flow of the conversation, but they are very professional. The live chat is also surprisingly good, and you get a person within seconds, it's impressive. We'll see what happens down the road, but so far I'm just thrilled. I feel like a million bucks, haha. Especially when going from paying with a $400 Credit One a couple of months ago to a gold Delta Amex that should be at $9000 (if 3x CLI) within about 6 weeks.

I'm fortunate that my business does a lot of spending, so this PRG should earn me lots of points in a short time. Unfortunately my biggest supplier charges high fees for Amex, but I'll try to work on that. At least my other suppliers (maybe 30% of my total spending) take Amex.

By the way, starting June 1st, they're improving the PRG program even more. 2x points at restaurants, no foreign transaction fees, and a $100 airline fee credit on top of the existing stuff. I won't make too much use of the foreign transaction fee thing since I don't travel abroad a lot (once every 2 or 3 years at most), but the airline fee credit is nice and for me, the 2x points at restaurants is perfect as I do enjoy my breakfasts at my local coffee shop. The downside is the annual fee goes up by $20, though I'm guessing since I signed up for the $0 first year, then $175 the second year, I'll pay the $195 fee on the third year. Either way, it'll be worth it to me, but that's just me.

I am back with AMEX after a 20 year absence. The customer service has been hit or miss. I have had to request three separate times that the member date be corrected. I just keep getting told that someone will call me back in 24-48 hours, which has not happened. I finally got through to someone today who gave me a case number and made me feel that the matter was being addressed. The outsourcing of the call centers to India and the Philippines is a problem. It's fine if you never need to talk to anyone, but not good when you do.

So far for me Discover has been the best for customer service--all US based call team. Close or maybe tied with that is Chase.

Still glad to be back with AMEX.
